Social listening SEO content: topics from monitoring
Keyword tools miss how people really type in Azerbaijani; discussions do not. How to extract SEO topics from social monitoring.
Short answer
Extracting SEO topics from social monitoring takes four steps: take a real question from the discussion, turn it into the forms people would type into search (with Azerbaijani and Russian spellings), check the search results and Search Console data if you have it to confirm the topic is searched and see which page type ranks, then decide to create a new page, update an existing one, or drop the topic. Discussion finds the topic; the search check confirms it. At no step are search volume or rankings invented.
Why start from discussion
Keyword tools often have little data for Azerbaijani and miss how people really type — without special letters, mixing Russian and Azerbaijani, in colloquial phrasing. Public discussion shows how people describe a problem in their own words. Someone who writes "why is my air conditioner leaking water" on a forum will probably type something similar into search. Discussion also gives the context behind the question: what the person already tried, what they fear, what answer they expect. That helps you write a more useful page.
Four steps
- A question from discussionA repeated, real question on a topic you are qualified to answer: "why is my air conditioner leaking?".
- A search hypothesisThree to five forms people might type: "air conditioner leaking water", "water dripping from AC", «кондиционер течёт вода». Real spellings are taken from the discussion.
- CheckSearch each form: what do the results contain — forums, videos, articles, shops? If you have Search Console, see whether your site already appears for these queries.
- DecideNew page, update an existing page, or drop it — with the reason.
What the search results tell you
- Forums and Q&A sites dominate — people want experience; a well-written practical guide is an opportunity.
- Videos dominate — the topic needs visual explanation; a text page alone may not be enough.
- Shop pages dominate — the intent is to buy; you need a category or product page, not a blog post.
- Strong, detailed articles already exist — what extra value do you bring? If none, drop the topic.
New page, update, or drop
If your site already has a page on the topic, creating a new one can make the two compete for the same query (cannibalisation). In that case, extend the existing page with the new questions from discussion. Create a new page only when the intent is different: the existing page is "how to choose", say, while the new question is "a problem after installation". If the topic is far from your product and expertise, dropping it is the right call.
The helpful-content check
Google's guidance for search recommends content made for people that is reliable and helpful, and offers a set of self-assessment questions. Their spirit is simple: does the content provide original information or analysis, does it cover the topic fully, will a reader leave feeling they achieved their goal, or will they have to search again elsewhere? A topic that comes from discussion helps you answer these questions, because you know the person's real situation. But a page written only for search traffic, on a subject where you have no expertise, does not pass this check.
The SEO topic card
- Question — in its discussion form, with two or three linked quotes.
- Search forms — Azerbaijani, Russian and, if needed, English spellings.
- What the results contain — page types and the quality of existing answers.
- Search Console data — if available; if not, write "not checked".
- Decision — new, update or drop; which page.
- Owner and date.
Numbers that are not invented
Search volume, difficulty or expected traffic go on the topic card only when they come from a real source — Search Console, or an authorised keyword tool. For many Azerbaijani queries such data does not exist or is very thin; in that case, writing "volume not measured" is honest. The author count in a discussion is an indirect signal of demand, but it is not search volume.
Illustrative example
This is an illustrative example. Over three months, an air-conditioning installer sees 14 different authors on forums ask "water is dripping into the room from the AC". In search, results for this query are mostly Russian-language forum threads and one video; there is no local practical guide. The site has an installation page, but it does not answer this question. Decision: a new page — "Water dripping from your air conditioner: 5 causes and what to do". The company's technician checks the content. Two months later, Search Console shows the page starting to appear for these queries — no ranking was promised, and none is.
Limitations
Social discussion is only an indirect indicator of search demand. Search engines change their rules, and no approach guarantees ranking or indexing. On medical, legal and financial topics, content must be checked by a specialist. When using quotes from discussion on a page, anonymise them and do not copy long passages.
Common mistakes
- Treating popularity in discussion as search volume.
- Writing a page without looking at the search results.
- Creating a duplicate page instead of updating the existing one.
- Inventing numbers or promising rankings.
- Writing for traffic on a topic outside your expertise.
Who does what
The monitoring team collects questions and real spellings. The SEO or content manager runs the search check, looks for clashes with existing pages and makes the decision. A specialist — technician, doctor, lawyer — reviews the content. Once a month the topic cards are reviewed together: which pages were written, which were updated, and what Search Console shows.
Collecting topics with Vexvon Monitoring
Vexvon Monitoring searches the sites you add for category terms and shows each post's type (including "question"), topic tags and language. It searches Azerbaijani text with suffixes in mind, which helps find different word forms of the same question. You can export results to Excel and use them as raw material for SEO topic cards; a person runs the search check and makes the decision. More on the Vexvon Monitoring page.
Next step
Pick 10 repeated questions from the last three months of discussion, write the search forms for each and check the results. For at least two, update an existing page or plan a new one. For your audience's language, see customer language research; other topics are in the campaign, content and lead signals section.
How this differs from social content
The same discussion can yield topics for both social content and search pages, but the criteria differ: a social post must spark interest this week, while a search page must answer the same question for years. How to choose social content topics is covered in content topics from social listening, and how to collect questions systematically in the category question bank.
